Nifc_Continental(NASA)!

Over a decade of great highs and lows, Newcastle (International), then Newcastle (Continental) & finally culminating in the great - Northumberland-Stockton African Continental (Aka) NASA II, brainchild creation of local North-East resident (Akpofure OTT), could perhaps look back with jusfiable pride and joy at the undeniable 'stats'.. Concrete facts behind their firmly entrenched 'historical' place in regional grassroots folklore..
Magnificent big-match venues such as Whitley Bays *Hillheads Stadium, *Bentons Blue Flames excellent facility, *Ponteland Leisure Centres outstandingly scenic and high class set-up, *Benfield Sports Centres innovative complex, *Killingworth Young Peoples exceptional centre, *Cowgate FCs delightful stadium, *Bullocksteads picturesque, ground breaking facility close to the International Airport at Kenton Bar....
All were marked down as pivotal in those successful teams history!
International starred at both Hillheads and Killingworth in two innovative (floodlit) matches back in (2002)! Winning a fair number of tough, testing games in the style and class Akpofure demanded and expected of such a diverse, mixed gathering of big personalities and characters. With top talents littering all those teams, including the likes of former Premiership stars like Aly-Dia, NUFC 'starlet' Robinson, Chad 'international' Hissein, Henriques, Nuno, Marcos, Njie, Oginni-Pac, Mollard, Nwosu, the Nordenfeldt & Kennedy brothers Mark, Andy, Joe & Jamie, Oshin, Coia, Francis, Gambian 'international' Sarr, Krumah, Diaby-Lamine, Dumbuya, Ben, Edison, Amouzouvi-Song, Die, Khalifa, Osaks-Omoigui, Drogba-Nkuriza, Agbatar, Jull, Ekpo, Ansah, Edusei, Vasconcelo, Greener, Turnbull, Chan, Dicka-Tocko, Daley, Moody, Sessford et al you knew this was something very special and indeed true testament to the exceptional player judgement allied to the motivatory gifts of their enigmatic owner/manager..
In (2005-7) (Continental) with a name change, revived and revamped proved another strong successful phase and took part in showcase matches at Ponteland, Benfields Blue Flames, Cowgate and Killingworth venues, sadly losing in 3 out of the 4 major finals by the flimsiest of margins!
The team then folded but again revived for what (Akpofure) charismatically titled long overdue (Unfinished Business)! - The mid-season arrival of former NUFC 'legend' Olivier Bernard in a tremendous advisory, coaching-consultancy capacity, gloriously heralded a triumphant, ultimately successful league and cup campaign, finally winning the holy grail of the Sunday PM *(CCL Championship title Crown) and retaining two other impressive pieces of silverware, (The *Northumberland Open Trophy - sponsored by MG-Rover (Spares) Felling & *(North-East Promotions) Presidents Cup, albeit narrowly missing out on a magnificent quadruple with a painful loss in the CCL Divisional Cup final!
All things considered the team(s) efforts can now be placed alongside some of the regions other such exalted grassroot greats, simply by the magnificent quality, diversity, hurdles and difficulties they overcame to climb mountains and make their indelible mark. In years to come perhaps even those vehemently opposed and even bitterly against the teams progress, due to discomfort borne out of ignorance and negativity, might come to realise just how special they actually were.. Hats off to all those superb characters, personalities and talents.. Boys became Men and then Kings of Kings!! Indeed on reflection a monumental achievement, which although now past retains it's fulsome taste and like fine wine will surely mature and prosper as time goes by..
HALCYON DAYS......
2011-11-22
18:25:28
Sad to say and even worse to see, but the painful demise of such a highly ambitious programme as Nifc's (7 year/season) "Community Champions-SuperLeague" was just a matter of time once the 'visionary ideals' and practices it was introduced to reflect and portray had been summarily derailed, under the unsavoury shadow of ignorance and negativity.
From the "halcyon days and times" at those glamorous NUFC Littlebenton Academy venues, Benton's Blue Flames & Coach Lane's Prestigious facilities, together with Ponteland's Leisure and latterly Benfield Sports Centre's and Brunswick Pavilion's, established Wideopen country park..
All these combined with a plethora of exceptional contests, sponsored events and top class trophies & prizes contributed to the attraction and signing up to the *16 team, two group competition.. High profile, quality sides like ITV-Tyne Tees/Newcastle Corner House/North Tyne/Gateshead Baobab/Newcastle West Jesmond/Central Heaton/Newcastle_(Continental)/Newcastle_Medics/Newcastle Sol_Tigers/(SAS)_(Sunderland)/South Gosforth FC (Newcastle)/Heaton Park Rangers/Sunderland Bangladeshi Association (SBFC) etc, etc
Tough disciplinary procedures and a refreshing no nonsense approach led to the competitions definitive stamp of class and innovation with all involved ready to fly the flag for universal, unilateral sporting integration on the field of play..
In particular, multi-cultural community groups such as Sol Tigers (Newcastle), SAS & SBFC (Sunderland) together with (Gateshead) Baobab were always assured that their teams would be able to compete on a level playing field, for some truly magnificent trophies and prizes in comfortable top quality surroundings, without fear of intimidation, violence, racism or intolerance and the sky seemed to be the limit for such bold, even brash aims.. At this point we can but 'sigh' at the desperate depths to which things sunk. Only time will tell whether lesson's can be learned of course, but terrific plaudits and acclaim must surely go to the likes of Mrs Irene Ford, Messrs Rahman, Bonngou, Nobbs Pervez Khan, Mohammad, Dr Olusi, et al. Then latterly, ITV'S Chris Ford, Munnoch, White, Ord, Elliott albeit with a tinge of regret at the failure to keep those of little faith and disheartened on board, as part of the CCSL united ultimately successful story..

The 1st ever Tyne-Tees "African" Champions Challenge Trophy was decided on Sunday December 14th 2008 at Gateshead's International Stadium. NASA_(Continental)II produced a devastating 1st half display, destroying opponents Red-See in a 12-2 agg. scoreline. Confirming their status as the finest "multi-cultural" side to grace the region's shores.. EMAIL; kingpin_nifc@live.co.uk *Click to access *(New); Forum-Msg Board link
*MG-ROVER (Spares)_Northumberland *(Open) Cup- *(SPECIAL EVENT_CUP FINAL) Blagdon BULLS_(Cramlington) v NASA_(Continental)_(Northumberland-Teesside) - 2010-06-12 - A cracking end season fixture at Alexandra Park on a rain soaked day saw newly crowned Ccl champions NASA come back from 2-0 down to win in dramatic style over their highly touted local opponents. The game was fairly competitive, but superbly marshalled by top official (John Harper) and despite the weather, still produced enough entertainment for a sizeable crowd. 2 unfortunate 1st half NASA errors had resulted in a 2-0 deficit, but a (Conway) strike, coupled with brilliant finishes from (Omoigui) sealed the victory, silencing the gloating, highly disrespectful "minority" on the oppositions side of the touchline.
NASA (Scorers) were: MOM Kelvein "Osaks" Omoigui 2 and Dale Conway
TRAVELLERS-HIND (Select) v NASA - August 16th 2009: Cramlington Sporting Club - Stuart 'Shaggy' Elsender Memorial Cup - *Special Event:

Subs: Naqvi for Mohsen/Dika for Lamine/Kone for Bentil/Ekpo for Chitende
In a pulsating, exciting match the local side, a combination of the "Travellers-Hind" FC's triumphed 3-2 in extra-time. However, NASA were badly let down by a "highly dubious" penalty awarded for an innocuous challenge in the box and two "catastrophic" goalkeeping errors, leading to "Kingpin" (Akpofure) commenting on the act of "divine intervention" preventing the treasured cup from leaving cramlington for the first time in 3 years! God willing, Continental will be back next year following their impressive showing... A great and rapidly growing event deserves the highest quality...
NASA IFC (Ultimate) squad/line-up - "Due to repeated demands for me to reveal what in my eyes would be my outstanding preferred NASA line-up (if all were to be available for selection, fully fit and playing to the utmost capacity of their undoubted talent) then without a doubt this would be MY chosen select".. -

Accompanied by the smooth tones of the world's number 1 "Hip-Hop" rapper (Nasir Jones) "Naz"'s defiant 'Ether' track.. Nifc_Kingpin and CCL (Founder) (Akpofure TT Ovire) showed his "creative, some may even say flawed genius" by unleashing this video clip years ahead of it's time (2001)
Awesome! Long may "superstars" like Rappa Hissein, Mark "Nod" Robinson, Gil "Eusebio" Henriques, Sam "The Man" Njie, Victor "The Vicar" Nwosu, Raymond "RayMeo" Oshin, Kevin "Chop" Moore, Matty "Ginola" Graham and Amadeu "George" Baltazar reign..
All were staunch allies in the establishment of the Nifc "legend" as the "Northern Lions" carved up, tore apart, then destroyed a very strong Peartree side, (Alan Pegram, Brian Howarth, Ray Watson etc, etc) on an atrocious muddy, churned up playing surface at George Stephenson High School, Killingworth (4-0) with goals coming from (Rappa Hissein 2, Victor Nwosu & Neil Hooley). Man of the match Mark "Nod" Robinson pulled the strings in centre midfield, ably assisted by Gil "Eusebio" Henriques, with Nifc superstar Rappa Hissein ensuring the Lions got culpable revenge for their unlucky 4-3 loss in the two sides first clash earlier on that season. Both exceptional sides were debuting in the Central Sunday Afternoon League and eventually finished first and third, securing promotion to the premier division at the first time of asking..

The "Northern Lions", as they were known by, due to their feisty, exciting, entertaining and often unpredictable blend of football arrived in the outlying neighbourhood of High Spen, with a 5 car convoy, then proceeded to dish out a "footballing" lesson to the local public house's "B" (Reserve) side..
We are proud to act as "ambassadors" for "education", "integration", "unity" and "togetherness".. We will continue doing our best to promote these "themes"..
At least 4 currently confirmed team's are set to participate in Nifc's highly touted (New) Community-Champions Challenge Series set to kick off in late 2008. Northumberland And Stockton African_(Continental) fulfilled their unscripted destiny in May 2010. Climbing the highest of mountains to reach the "promised land" of premier league success, thus securing an "historic" previously unheard of regional north east title triumph.
In a game they simply had to win to secure the teams first ever championship title triumph, Contenders Cup finalists Collingwood FC were destroyed 5-1 by a devastating NASA performance, after finishing so close 2 years previously in an exceptional but bitterly and hotly disputed 'Grand Final' loss!..
Despite the disgracefully blatant scheming, extremely hostile antics allied to an all-out dirty tricks campaign from the main protagonists, both then and now, surprisingly and unfortunately aided and abetted by the usual suspects on that programme's committee and governing body, this time was to prove a vastly different outcome!
"Continental" had started very sharply with "Hitman" Ansah producing a brilliant volley in the 2nd minute to rapturous applause and a promised verse from the Justin Bieber smash hit 'Baby'!!
However, Collingwood had managed to overcome NASA twice from three earlier meetings during the season, were a very good side at their best and came back strongly, playing with full commitment to equalise from a poorly defended corner kick... Nevertheless, NASA kept focus, maintaining full concentration, composure and their exceptional quality all over the field told in the end..
Stunning strikes from *(Man of the Match) Dumbuya and *(Player of the Year) Die led to joyous celebrations at the realisation that their teams time had indeed come and regardless of all the bitterness, political lobbying, etc all connected with NASA knew the enormity of their achievement...
Superbly orchestrated and guided by since retired owner/manager (Akpofure OTT), latterly advised, supported and assisted by none other than former NUFC star (Olivier 'Legend' Bernard) and now rather grudgingly acknowledged as an outstanding champion of legendary repute.
Akpofure, a proud, competitive, albeit immensely burdened personality, along with his brave, not to mention supremely gifted, talented and dedicated players overcame enormous obstacles and challenges, making huge personal sacrifices, in order to deliver the competition's greatest ever prize as part of a lasting legacy!
In the words of the team’s outspoken, charismatic and oft maligned leader; "Together we climbed a very steep mountain, scaled the peak to arrive at the "promised land" of championship title glory. As fully expected, the journey was littered with dangerous obstacles, brutal challenges and ruthless challengers, often disgraceful and shocking skullduggery among other negative issues. Regardless, these truly exceptional players somehow united behind myself and their beloved team and in their exemplary achievement, (even though failing to take down 'bitter' arch rivals Fawdon) to win a glorious league/cup 'double', the record books show and indeed history will acknowledge that this outstanding side finished as worthy 'champions' of that competition and will forever hold its greatest prize(s) as due recognition and encouragement to other's among the local community, to strive and attain great heights, better themselves and always aim for the top in whatever they do! -
CLIPPED COPY FROM REAL MADRID BOSS, THE LEGENDARY 'SPECIAL ONE'; 'I think in a few years people in Cyprus will realise what Apoel have done, it is the biggest achievement in Champions League this season,' Mourinho added. This monumental success, indeed the triumph over unrelenting odds, adversity and disgraceful negativity will only realise it's true greatness in years to come but we're all truly proud and delighted to have passed the ultimate test.. I would just say at this point to those who played major parts in the ridiculous behind the scenes, antics, blatant plotting and numerous attempts to alter the destination of that league's main prize!! "It might be prudent to remember that 'politics' is best left to politicians, be it in Downing street's recent 'hung paliarment' coalition or elsewhere...
In the final analysis, negative', 'insignificant' issues as racism, bigotry, ignorance and downright disgraceful inhumane conflict allied to fear based 'intolerance', should have no place in society, let alone the beautiful sport that is football. However, the commitment, faith, belief, loyalty and understanding shown by each and every one of my players ensured we could and can still continue to celebrate a truly magnificent, epic, history making triumph. A stunning victory over seemingly insurmountable odds, in the most remarkable comeback since... Well a certain boxer springs to mind... Allez NASA!!!!"

Ignorance, lack of understanding and fear of the unknown have led many to take up the fight against 'stigma', discrimination and inaccurate diagnosis! Rumours, malicious tales and such negativity can damage the lives of those who are not perhaps strong enough to overcome significant shame and pain, at somehow failing by having a weakness of sorts in the mind!
Thankfully, life throws a whole manner of challenges and obstacles for each to overcome in their own individual or collective manner. As such those who suffer depression be it 'manic or schizophrenic' or in this case periodic attacks of low moods, panic and nervous energy usually have to come to terms with the general view of the majority? That they are 'crazy', 'mad', 'insane', have 'lost the plot', are the proverbial 'nutters', 'crackers', bad people etc, etc.. Truth of the matter is far from such hurtful and ignorant phrases! In fact, like the majority, they're also Gods children, albeit some whose 'path' has taken a slightly different detour or route to others....
Far from being villified and treated with contempt due to ignorance and hidden fear, they should actually be celebrated even revered as fellow human beings who have taken on a major challenge to climb mountains, scale peaks and reach the top with everything still intact...
Fact? You cannot catch it, it certainly is not in any way contagious, infectious or indeed dangerous to others.... What actually constitutes danger is more the ignorant majority who characterise such stigma and negativity, pushing until in some cases adverse reactions are forthcoming)!! Resulting in more damaging negative publicity and yet further confirmation of the fears of those with ignorant minds... Truth? Majority of mental health sufferers are totally harmless to anyone but themselves and my key words for ending this ignorance is 'understanding' and 'tolerance'!
